Breed origin

Thailand (Thailand) is considered to be the motherland, although these representatives throughout many centuries have also met in other countries of Asia. Images of cats with similar appearance in the 14th century manuscripts testify to the ancient origin of the breed, but no one knows the exact date of the appearance of these animals.

It is only known that the ancestors of bobtails are Siamese and Thai cats. Some kittens were born short-tailed, they were often presented to ambassadors of different countries and kings. So unique pets and settled in different parts of the world.

At first, the short tail was considered a vice, so these individuals were not allowed to breed, but the breeders from Russia insisted on keeping unusual pets and in 1984 approved the breed standard, which was then slightly adjusted. Then it was only a type of Thai cats, and in 2004 the Mekong bobtail breed became independent.

Description breed Mekongsky Bobtail

The description of the Mekong bobtail is similar to the description of a Thai cat. The most important difference is the length and shape of the tail. In Thai bobtail it is twisted, curved (in any direction) and no longer than of the body. At the same time there should be at least 3 vertebrae. Otherwise, they are the same compact, strong and harmoniously built animals with a practically straight back.

On a rounded head are:

rather large and wide at the base of the ears with slightly rounded ends, while the outer edge of the ear slightly retracted;

almond-shaped eyes with a deep blue tint (other colors are unacceptable);

the so-called Roman nose (in the form of an arc).

Bobtail paws are thin, but muscular, therefore, have excellent jumping ability. The paw pads are oval-shaped. Growth parameters: 25-30 cm. The body weight of a male is 3-5 kg, females 2.5-3.5 kg.

Bobtail hair is short, shiny, silky, with almost no undercoat. Color - various options of a color point (color point):

seal (dark brown shade on a cream background);

blue (bluish silver);

chocolate (chocolate brown);

red (light peach paws and torso, red face);

tabby (striped);

tortie (tortoise).

An interesting feature is bobtail leather. It does not fit tightly to the body, but tends to be delayed. And it does not deliver any discomfort to the pet. Due to this, many individuals were able to survive in Asia after being bitten by a venomous snake. After all, snake venom lingers under the skin, but does not penetrate into the blood, and if it leaks out, then in a small (non-lethal) amount.

Mekong bobtail's faithful character makes him look like a dog. Short-tailed cat quickly becomes attached to the man and guarding his house. Like dogs, mekongi at the door meet all people who entered the house and thoroughly sniff. Aggression does not show, but they study a person by smell.

Features of the content of Thai bobtail

The content of the Thai bobtail does not cause difficulties even for beginners. Mekongs are unpretentious in food, with pleasure they eat ready-made premium and superpremium food. But it is better to take specially designed for Siamese cats, as the composition of these products has a positive effect on the shade of the coat.

You can also give natural food to feed the Mekong bobtail: meat, chicken, offal, dairy products, porridge, boiled sea fish, eggs, vegetables. And pets usually know their own measure, and therefore do not overeat. Therefore, overweight will not have to fight.

Hair care is also minimal. Since the mekongs have almost no undercoat, they cope with marathon guidance themselves. Pets are combed only during molting with the help of special mittens. Eyes and ears are cleaned as they are soiled, and teeth 1-2 times a week. Old men often develop periodontal disease, so the teeth should be monitored from a young age.

On the hind legs of the mekong claws do not retract, so they knock on the floor. So that the pet does not wake up the household in the middle of the night with a chant, claws are regularly (every 1.5-2 weeks) trimmed with a special nail clipper.

Due to good health and the absence of specific genetic diseases with proper care, Thai Bobtail can live up to 25 years.
