The history of the origin of the breed pikibob

She was bred artificially. The short-tailed wild forest cat that lives in North America and the domestic cat are the parents of the pixibob. The first offspring with the desired appearance was born in the 80s of the 20th century. The little girl was called Pixie, that is, "elf." From her father she got an unusual appearance (like a lynx trot), and from her mother - a docile and calm character.

A year later, breeder Carol Ann Brewer (Carol Ann Brewer) began to actively breed these unique animals. Breed registration occurred in 1995, but it is still not recognized by the International Cat Federation (FIFe).

Description of the breed pikibob

The most noticeable feature in the description of the breed is the tail of a shorter length than that of ordinary domestic cats. Therefore, such a unique pet is often called a short-tailed elf. Although there is a longer tail, but according to the standard, ideally, it should be from 5 cm to a length that does not extend beyond the hock.

Another distinctive feature is a piercing look, like that of a beast. This is facilitated by deep-set narrowed eyes in the form of triangles and a rather large and strong chin. The body and legs are powerful too, so the animal looks very large and even frightening. However, by the nature of the pxibob, he is very meek and obedient. He is strongly focused on the person, well gives in to training, however strangers are afraid.

The head has the shape of a pear, there must be whiskers on the muzzle, and tassels are very desirable on the ears (like in a lynx). The nose is slightly convex, terracotta color.
Short or semi-long and necessarily soft wool can be of any shade of brown and smoky - brown spotted tabby color with ticking and with spots and stripes of different sizes. In this case, the tip of the tail should certainly be darker than the color of the entire body. A dark pattern in the form of the letter "M" is noticeable on the forehead.

In addition, polydactylism (polydactylism) is allowed in a psixobob, a genetic abnormality in which an animal has a greater number of fingers (up to 7 instead of the usual 4 or 5).

The weight of females is 3-7 kg, and males - 5-9. Some individuals reach 10 kg.

Peculiarities of maintenance and care for psikobob

Kittens of the breed pikibob usually are born without genetic diseases, in any case, until some inheritance defects were recorded. The list of diseases to which representatives of this unusual breed are subject does not yet exist. Therefore, the short-tailed elf is a good choice for a beginner. With such a healthy pet, a visit to the vet is limited to annual preventive vaccination.

Pet fur coat does not need special care, it is enough to periodically comb it. But the claws are not so simple. If they are not grinded with the help of a claw stick (and this can be difficult to do with multi-fingered animals), then it is necessary to trim them with a special clapper.

These cats love outdoor games. Thanks to the multi-pitches and well-developed dexterity, they perfectly manage to catch toys with their front paws. And short-tailed elves love to walk down the street.

Nutrition Pixiboba does not differ from the standard cat diet. In spite of good health, it is still better to feed pets with high-quality food (meat, sea fish, chicken, vegetables, eggs) or ready-made superpremium or premium food.
