Description Breed standard

Akita Inu is a hunting dog from the highlands of northern Japan. Due to this, representatives of the breed are distinguished by strong muscles and are perfectly folded. The head is like a bear - massive, with a distinct forehead and small erect ears, and the muzzle is short and flat.

Akita Inu is a tall dog (average height 60-68 cm) with an elongated body and a powerful chest. The back is straight.

The weight of representatives of the breed varies from 40 to 50 kg.

Akita Inu has a complex coat structure, which is represented by three separate layers: the upper one, for example, is the most rigid, straight; medium - shorter in length, but also hard; undercoat - soft, thick. It is wool that gives the maximum impression made by the breed. The hair of these dogs can be either long or short (both types are standard except for too long or too short hair).

With regard to color, everything is strictly and only five types of it are allowed.

  1. The black
  2. Absolutely white
  3. Brindle
  4. Sesame
  5. Red

For each of the coat colors, Urajiro (Urajiro) is obligatory, white colors are on the belly, chest, limbs and muzzle.

Care Features of care, training, feeding

Akita Inu feels great in any territory: both in a big house and in a small apartment.
In the care they are unpretentious. It is possible to bathe 2-3 times a year, it is enough to comb the hair 1-2 times a week (during the molting period it should be increased to 3-4 times to help the animal to get rid of the unnecessary wool faster). Haircut is not required.

You should be prepared for the fact that it is recommended to start training from the age of 7-8 weeks due to the temperament of the dog.

The ideal Akita Inu diet is mixed. Do not forget that this breed was brought from Japan, and therefore it is necessary to make a diet with this fact in mind. In addition to the usual dry food must be present and natural products such as meat, fish, vegetables, dairy products, cheese, cereal. Meat and fish must be strictly cooked!
