Breed history

Cane Corso is the oldest breed of dogs of the Malossky group. Evidence of its existence are found in the days of the Roman Empire. There, these brave dogs were used for hunting, protection and as hunters at gladiator fights.

The courage and fearlessness of these dogs were highly valued. In Italian, there is even the expression "brave as Corso".

Unfortunately, no authentic information about the development of the history of Cane Corso in the period after the collapse of the Roman Empire and before the Middle Ages has been preserved. It can be said for sure that the Malossian group has gained incredible distribution throughout Europe, as evidenced by the numerous works of sculptors and artists.

Up until the beginning of the Second World War, the Cane Corso dog was mainly used for guarding, and the hunt was relegated to second place. With the onset of war, the very existence of the species was under threat. Only thanks to a group of breed lovers was it possible to find rare, purebred representatives of it and to begin work on restoration. Fortunately, they succeeded.

Description of Cane Corso

The Cane-Corso standard is quite strict and any, even the most insignificant, deviation from it is a marriage.

The torso in the description of Cane-Corso is athletic, slightly elongated, not squat. It is characterized by a straight, strong back, not long waist, wide, massive chest. The length of the body exceeds the height at the withers. The tail is set high enough. As a rule, it is arrested at the level of the fourth vertebra. It is thick and wide, should stand, but not vertically. Any bend is prohibited.

The head has a large shape. Its wedge-shaped form is strictly prohibited. The transition from the skull to the muzzle is pronounced. The muzzle is shorter than the skull. Its outline is formed by overhanging upper lips, which completely cover the lower ones. The nose is wide and black. The eyes are oval in shape and as dark as possible. Ears are located high on the head, hanging. It is often possible to meet their arrest, then they stand and have the shape of a triangle.

The limbs of the Cane-Corso dog are long, strong, very muscular.

The coat consists of a short, but thick coat and a very scanty undercoat.

Character

Cane Corso is an incredibly strong and intelligent dog. An important indicator of the breed is self-control and restraint. In the event of a real threat, the dog, without hesitating for a second, will rush to protect people.

Despite this “glibness”, the baseless manifestation of anger and aggressiveness is not typical of him at all. On the contrary, these four-fingered people love their owners very much and are always extremely loyal to them.
