This is evidenced by images of similar dogs during the time of the existence of Urartu-Ararat kingdom.

The dog was most common in the Caucasus, as well as in the southern part of modern Russia. Its original purpose was to protect the family of the owner, his home and livestock.

They directly engaged in the improvement of the breed only at the beginning of the 20th century, focusing precisely on its guard qualities.

Characteristics of the Caucasian Shepherd Dog
