The origin of the breed

The ancestor of the Miniature Schnauzer is the Mittelschnauzer, who before the advent of his smaller and larger counterparts was simply called the Schnauzer. Nothing is known about his roots. We can only say with certainty that these dogs were bred to protect the home from various rodents. The presumed ancestors are dogs from the south of Germany.

The first mention of the breed dates from the end of the 19th century. The Miniature Schnauzer was obtained by tying the smallest representatives of the Schnauzer with such breeds as the Spitz, Poodle, Pinscher. In 1888 the first representative of the breed was registered.

Miniature Schnauzer Appearance

Representatives of this species are very compact, angular. Their parameters are small: the growth varies between 30-38 cm, and the weight is about 4-8 kg.

The head of them has a rectangular shape, rather large, narrowing to the lobe of the black nose. The ears are triangular. They can either stop or not. In the first case, they are standing, in the second - adjacent to the head. Bushy eyebrows pronounced. On the muzzle there is a distinctive feature of the appearance of the Miniature Schnauzer - a beard.

The paws of these dogs are short, but nevertheless very strong. The toes on the paws are tightly compressed, the pads are very hard, and the claws are black. The tail was stopped earlier, and according to the last standard it should be preserved in its natural state.

The hair of these four-legged ones is hard, short, but nevertheless very thick. It consists of coarse guard hair (softer on the limbs) and a dense undercoat. Color available in the following types:

Due to their compact size and the absence of a pronounced molt, these pets are ideal for an apartment. But, despite their external miniature, inside them lives a brave big dog who needs physical exertion and walks on the street.

The content of the Miniature Schnauzer is not burdensome. Grooming is not complicated, but has a number of features. Combing wool preferably every day with a comb with frequent teeth. The hair on the face should be carefully trimmed so that they do not interfere with the eyes. Eyes by the way have a tendency to increased secretions, so they need to be washed frequently. Ears can be cleaned once a week. Behind teeth and claws, care is provided as needed.
