Breed history

To this day, it was not possible to establish the exact date and place of origin of Papillon. It is only known that dogs of this type presumably existed about 8 hundred years ago.

Spain, France, Belgium and Italy believe that the history of Papillon is inextricably linked with precisely their states. This dog has always been held in high esteem by kings and queens. Its popularity could not be compared with any other breed. Among her admirers were Louis 14, 15, 16, Marie Antoinette and many others.

Even the great Titian in one of his works portrayed a girl with a dog that looks like Papillon. She was fluffy, with erect ears and a white stripe in the middle of her head - a “groove”.

It was this image of the dog that formed the basis of the first breed standard, which was approved in 1934. In order to improve the Papillon breed, breeders performed mating with a spitz, which later gave the dog an incredibly beautiful and silky “fur coat”.

Papillon's description

Papillon, or continental toy spaniel, is a small sized dog. Her weight varies from 2 to 4 kg, and her weight does not exceed 30 cm. Her torso is very tiny, but well built. The chest appears flat, the back is straight, the neck is thin and graceful, and the stomach is slightly picked up.

The head is round, with a clear transition from the frontal part to the face. Ears, their main feature, are located widely, standing.

It should be clarified that the continental toy spaniel breed is divided into two types: Falen and Papillon. So they look almost the same, with the exception of the ears that hang on the first and on the second stand.

Limbs parallel to each other, strong. The tail rests on the back.

The coat is very soft and soft. The base is white, and it is diluted in a variety of colors, with the exception of blue.

The color in the description of Papillon can be two-color and three-color, but it is precisely two-color that is recognized as more valuable among breeders.

Dog character

Despite the fact that this fluffy is ranked as a class of decorative dogs, at home it will not be just an “ornament”. On the contrary, he constantly wants to learn something new and interesting.

Papillon's character has such traits as gambling, gaiety, playfulness. They are constantly looking for something to do. People are easily contacted, as well as children.

Negative Papillon can be called their jealousy. They may be offended if the owner pays them little attention or spends time with someone else.

Papillon Care

In order for the dog to look attractive it is important to properly care for it. This applies to its coat, eyes, ears and claws. All veterinarians recommend bathing a pet as it is contaminated with a special shampoo from a veterinary pharmacy.
