History of the Hungarian Vizsla breed

The origin of this dog has known both dizzying success and popularity, as well as the decline in its distribution, and the threat of complete extinction.

The history of the Hungarian vizsla began presumably in the 10th century on the territory of Hungary, which was not then an independent state, but was an integral part of Pannonia. The climate there was rather severe and dry. For a successful hunt, which by the way was very popular there, people needed a reliable assistant. It was for this that the tailed ones with a rich cover of sandy color were used.

By their nature, the animals were very freedom-loving and often ran away. So they spread over vast territories. By the way, they were noticed by Hungarian hunters, who appreciated the wool, which was easy not to miss even at a great distance, and the ability to hunt in absolutely any conditions.

The work to improve the qualities of the exterior and character was taken under careful control only in the 18th century. Thanks to the efforts of the breeder Zaya, the dog acquired a modern look.

The Second World War became a serious threat to the existence of the breed. On pain of taking the dogs out of the country by the Nazis, the owners killed their pets. Only thanks to rare, miraculously preserved individuals, exported mainly to America, it was possible to restore the breed.

Description of the Hungarian vizsla

First of all, this breed is insanely pleasing to the eye. This is a stately dog, with a proud gait, intelligent eyes and incredibly bright, elegant coat.

The dimensions are large. Height: 50-65 cm depending on gender, weight: 18-25 kg.

The body is characterized by well-developed muscles. Its length exceeds the height, so that the body can be called elongated. The chest is broad, massive with rounded ribs. The back is athletic and straight. It passes into a slightly raised loin and a rounded croup.

The tail is long. It can be docked by a quarter of the length if the dog is working. As a rule, it is kept parallel to the ground.

The head is always held proudly and self-sufficient. The transition from skull to muzzle is visible, but not too sharp. The muzzle is rectangular, ending in a large nose slightly darker than the coat with wide nostrils. The eyes are slightly slanted, large. Their color should be identical to the pigment of the nose. The ears are set at medium height. They are dangling. As a rule, they hang over the cheeks. The tips are rounded.

The limbs in the description of the Hungarian vizsla are strong, parallel to each other. The hind ones are strikingly more powerful, especially in the hips.

The coat is the symbol of the breed. For him, various shades of red are acceptable: from sandy to amber. The coat itself is rather coarse and short. There is no undercoat.

The character of the Hungarian vizsla

This four-legged one has amazing qualities. He loves people very much and does not show absolutely any aggression towards them. This also applies to strangers, so you shouldn't get this tailed beast to guard.

Relations with children are friendly. The dog will undoubtedly become a faithful companion in various games. But just don't leave small children unattended! Large parameters of the dog can harm the baby.

You can find contact with pets, but there are some nuances. So, with other dogs (with proper acquaintance with cats), conflicts will not arise. But if you have any miniature pets at home, you should be careful. The hunting instincts can play a cruel joke with them.

The character of the Hungarian vizsla has immense love for its master. There is always one person who he is ready to follow wherever he goes.

Hungarian vizsla in the apartment

Before you get yourself a puppy, you should carefully consider his stay with you. Hungarian vizsla can live in an apartment, in a large private house. This is not a fundamental point. The main thing is long walks. They must be active, varied so that the pet can flex not only its bones and muscles, but also its brain.

The coat is not very whimsical to care for, but it requires attention. You will need to comb it out at least once a week. Bathing is carried out, of course, less often. Sometimes it can be replaced with a simple towel wipe.

Due to the fact that the dog has no undercoat, it is recommended to purchase special clothing for the cold season.

Otherwise, caring for a quadruped is reduced to regular procedures, mandatory for all breeds. This is brushing your teeth, trimming your claws, brushing your ears, rubbing your eyes.

How to feed the Hungarian vyzhlu?

Education should be carried out gradually. Do not shout, do not scold, do not beat your pet. So, you will lose his trust and risk becoming the owner of an aggressive animal. Instead, encourage him to do it correctly in a gentle, praising voice. This is the best incentive and motivation for him!
