I got some very valuable advice from people here on transitioning my 10 month old kitten to adult stage food.
Hallie had a general health check up today. And the vet said everything is perfect. However, she weighed in at 5kg. And a female fully grown adult BSH should be around 4kg. I wasn’t sure how realistic this is? In anyone’s personal experience with this breed, is this accurate? I had read them to be bigger than 4kg when fully grown.
Hallie is large, I am well aware. I try to monitor food, she is not greedy. She grazes throughout the day on what I put down. She’s still a baby so very active. We play together at regular times throughout the day. I just don’t know how realistic it is for her to lose 1kg to be considered ‘healthy’ when even for a large cat, she has always been on the heavy side. I worry that since she was spayed she’s gained too much fat.
They recommended I start the transition now to adult food and recommended I choose one for sterilised cats. She said it could take years for her to lose what she needs. The point is she’s not unhealthy in general. All her checks were brill. But she just weighs in a bit big.
I just feel a bit like I’ve failed her. But the vet said her genetics with her breed, combined with being spayed so early is just a recipe for gaining weight so easily and rapidly. It happens. Now we need to make sure she doesn’t gain more and move her in the direction of losing 1kg over time.
I just wanted to thank you all for your valuable advice and just ask like, does this seem doable? They want her to join the pet fat club they run and I’m just feeling like a terrible parent that my kitten is overweight. It’s supposed to be impossible to have an overweight kitten.
I’ll put a picture of the day I got her to now. So she lost her mum at a very young age and the litter that was born left earlier than planned as they didn’t have a mum there. I got her at 7 weeks and the side by side is her now at 10 months.
Honest opinions and from your own personal experience with your BSHs and their weights, it would be extremely helpful to me please contact whatsapp business 447450021323
